Mecca bingo has announced the winner of their nationwide cookery challenge. Angeline Al- Awari was declared the winner of the family recipe challenge after she dished up her impressive chicken Arabic surprise.

The competition was launched back in August across their bingo halls and online. Judges searched for the perfect recipe which will appear in a charity recipe book due to be launched at the end of the year.

The only criteria for the competition were that the recipe took no longer than 90mins to prepare and cook and cost no more than £5 to feed a family of four. Recipes poured in creating a tough competition.

The general manager at Mecca Bingo Oldham where the winner plays commented, “We’ve had lots of great recipe entries for the family favourite’s competition from dishes that have been passed down the generations to great British family fare, so choosing a club winner wasn’t an easy task. However, Angeline’s recipe stood out because not only was it an affordable dish but it will be easy for people to make at home.

Angeline said of her recipe win, “this recipe belongs to my husband who is Arabic. We first met 19 years ago and this was the first meal he cooked for me and it continues to be my favourite. I love this dish as much as I love him!”

The recipe will be featured in a special charity cook book compiled by Mecca Bingo of which proceeds will support children’s charity whizz kidz.

The UK Gambling Commission has released their annual report revealing that online bingo sales have increased despite the country being in the midst of recession. The report shows year on year sales have increased by 4.6% in 2009 indicating despite financial hardship people are still drawn towards the game.

The number of operators registered with the UK Gambling Commission has in fact dropped from 2224 to 2166 this year with land based halls dropping to 641 from 675.
