The most sought after competition for bingo callers in the UK in now open – the 2008 Bingo Caller of the Year by the National Bingo
Players at land-based bingo halls can now nominate their favourite callers and vote for the through the National Bingo site. The competition celebrates the best bingo callers across the United Kingdom awarding six regional titles and one main winner.
Last year's regional winners were: Allen Musa (Buckingham Bingo, Euston), Blake Robson (Mecca Bingo, South Shields), Mark Lunn (Mecca Bingo, Wednesbury), Melanie Ceazer (Gala Bingo, Enfield), Rob Willard (Mecca Club, Cwmbran) and finally James Cook (Mecca Bingo, Edinburgh).
The eventual winner, crowned as the 2007 Bingo Caller of the Year was Blake Robson.
He said "When they first announce me as the winner I was absolutely elated. Everything seemed to happen in a blur. I barely remember receiving the trophy. Within a few hours I was being interviewed on Radio Five Live, then the next morning I was a guest on BBC's Breakfast programme".
2001's winner, Alan Stockdale, who said "I've got the best job in the world", is now the voice of Think Bingo, calling numbers for online bingo players.
